On Friday, April 6, 2013 six students participating in the Halifax Sci-Tech Expo, were selected to attend the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Lethbridge, AB. The Canada-Wide Science Fair will be held from May 11 to 18.
Julia Sarty (grade 10, Citadel High School), Terra Carling Lanteigne (grade 9, Bedford Academy), Nicole Poirier (grade 8, Bedford Academy), Zoe Abraham (grade 9, Bedford Academy), Briana Ross (grade 10, J.L. Ilsley High School) and Hannah Miles (grade 10, Sir John A. Macdonald High School) will attend the national science fair and take part in a full week of activities including tours, displays, judging of their projects and the final awards ceremony in the ENMAX Centre, Lethbridge, AB.
Over 110 students participated in the Halifax Sci-Tech Expo. These students, in grades 7 to 12, displayed 85 science projects in a wide range of science and technology disciplines. In addition to the six grand prizes, close to thirty percent of the participants received awards including Medals of Excellence, cash prizes totalling over $1000, and university scholarships.
The HSTE Association relies on the generous sponsorship of universities, businesses, and other organizations to provide the awards and scholarships and to send the six students to the national science fair. Major sponsors of HSTE 2013 were Saint Mary’s University, Natural Forces, Halifax Regional School Board, Dalhousie University, Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline and Heritage Gas.
